What is Structural Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is the name given to the process of redesigning the nose for aesthetic or any other purposes. However, many different rhinoplasty surgery techniques have recently emerged. These techniques are planned and applied in detail according to the patient’s need and nose structure and ensure successful results. Structural rhinoplasty is one of these types of aesthetic nose surgery. The widespread application of the structural rhinoplasty technique corresponds to the beginning of the 2000s. Structural rhinoplasty is a very detailed operation. However, in this surgery, it is planned to rebuild the remaining nose structure according to the patient’s nose structure, together with the replacement of any nasal element such as the nose belt, nose tip or nose wing.
Structural rhinoplasty surgery, as in other rhinoplasty surgeries , is frequently preferred in complex rhinoplasty operations, as it is planned individually and this planning is very detailed. Revision rhinoplasty technique is frequently preferred in revision nose surgeries, that is, in procedures where the desired result cannot be achieved as a result of the first surgery and additional nose surgery may be required.
How is structural rhinoplasty performed ?
For structural rhinoplasty, first of all, the patient and the physician who will perform the operation should be interviewed. During this interview, the patient’s complaints and expectations are listened to, and if they are appropriate, a structural rhinoplasty operation can be decided. The preferred method for revision rhinoplasty procedures is generally structural rhinoplasty. After the structural rhinoplasty operation is confirmed with the patient , a detailed operation plan is prepared by the surgeon who will perform the surgery.
General anesthesia is used for structural rhinoplasty. After the effect of the anesthesia process, the nose surgery phase is started. Considering the problems in the patient’s nose, rhinoplasty surgery is performed in line with the procedures planned by the surgeon. In structural rhinoplasty open technique is more preferred. With the preference of open technique rhinoplasty, surgeons who perform the operation have the opportunity to fully see and intervene in the problems of the nose. The procedure is completed with the closing of the incisions opened in the structural rhinoplasty surgery.
Structural rhinoplasty operations may take longer than other rhinoplasty procedures, as there are plenty of details. Structural rhinoplasty surgery takes 2-3 hours on average. During this period the specific techniques, which are previously designed and confirmed by patient will be applied
Who is not a good candidate for structural rhinoplasty?
For structural rhinoplasty operations, which are frequently preferred by surgeons, an examination is performed with the patient before the operation. During this examination, the patient’s nose problem and postoperative expectations are determined, as well as a detailed health history. Patients are asked for information such as the medications they use, their chronic illnesses, allergies, if any, and pregnancy status. Then, in the light of this information, it is decided whether the patient is a suitable candidate for structural rhinoplasty surgery. In some cases, patients may not be suitable for structural rhinoplasty surgery:
Pregnant or nursing mothers are not suitable candidates for structural rhinoplasty surgery, as in many other aesthetic and surgical operations. A re-interview with patients can be scheduled after the end of their breastfeeding period.
Structural rhinoplasty surgeries are not recommended for patients with chronic conditions that prevent surgery or anesthesia procedures. However, patients who are allergic to anesthetic agents are not suitable for this operation.
In general terms, structural rhinoplasty operation can be applied to adult female and male patients who do not have a problem that prevents surgery.
